Free People and Amazon have a pretty distinct price difference. HOWEVER, there are so many trending Free People items that have been spotted with a potential twin/sister/cousin at our friend Amazon 👀 Have no fear, LIY is here to do some digging and put these “look-a-likes” to the test, side by side, to let you know our thoughts so that you can decide for yourself which items are worth the splurge and which are worth the save!
Curious which Lululemon look-a-likes are at Amazon?! Check out our blog post on those goodies here!
The Way Home Shorts
Free People Shorts [size up if in between, wearing in medium] // Amazon Shorts [size up if in between, wearing in medium]
To be honest, I didn’t notice much of a difference at all between these two pair of shorts! They are both very similar materials, fit, and style so I can’t say that I would 100% buy one direction vs the other! If the goal is to save money [although we’re only talking a difference of $5], I would stick with the Amazon brand because if you’re like me, you most likely won’t notice a difference! I will say, however, when it comes to workout shorts, the pair I still love the most are these! A little longer of a length, built-in-underwear and so comfortable!
Hailee Sweater Set
Free People Hailee Sweater Set[size down one, wearing small] // Amazon Set [true to size, wearing M]
Whoa, talk about similar sweater sets above … the only real difference is the price tag and cozy factor! The Amazon set is more of a lighter material(which may play great in the Summer, Beach/Lake Nights) The Free People set had a softer material and more of a real snuggle up get cozy yumminess about it! Both sets are honestly fantastic, so it just depends on how much you would like to spend and how much coziness you want to enjoy!
Hot Shot Jumpsuit
Free People Jumpsuit [true to size for baggy fit] // Amazon Jumpsuit [true to size] // Sneakers [size down .5]
OKAY there are SO many “save” versions of this every so popular Hot Shot Jumpsuit from Free People on Amazon, but this is the one I went with based on some digging! There are definitely some obvious differences: 1.) The free people jumpsuit “black” is more of a vintage look, while Amazon is a true Black. 2.) The Free People jumpsuit is a softer/stretchier material 3.) Amazon wasn’t as “slouchy” of a fit. With all of that said, I honestly loved both! It’s just a matter of spending $70 vs $40 and your fit preference!
Freya Sweater Set
Freya Sweater Set [Wearing in Shorehouse Combo, TTS] / Amazon Set [Wearing in Blue, TTS]
I have seen this set circulating the internet so I knew I had to give it a try! First thing first, I honestly love both sets. They are SO similar with only a few key differences. 1. The Free People set has a heavier weight to it. I think the biggest difference between these two sets was the quality of the material. Free People doesn’t cut corners when it comes to their cozy knits! That being said, the set itself was definitely heavier than the Amazon set. Although, a part of me actually like that that each piece felt a little lighter to wear around! 2. The Amazon set had a looser band. I think also due to the material, the band on the Amazon set was looser around my waist. It was still snug and didn’t fall but it didn’t feel as tight as the Free People set. I am currently 24 weeks pregnant so a looser band felt a little better to me. I do think both sets would grow with me throughout pregnancy and also be go-to’s postpartum! 3. The Free People set was longer in length. For my taller friends [I’m 5’5], I would definitely opt for the Free People set. While both lengths worked for me, I think the Amazon set would hit at an awkward length for anyone taller than 5’5!
Hot Shot Mini Dress
Free People Dress [TTS, wearing Large] // Amazon Dress [TTS, wearing L]
This FP Movement Hot Shot Mini Dress has been all over my Tiktok feed, but I wasn’t overly impressed once I actually got my hands on it. The t-shirt material is pretty thin and it was overall too short for my comfort level. For reference, I’m 5’5″ usually 10/12 and wearing a size large. I did like the built in shorts, bra [no padding, more like a cami], and adjustable straps! The Amazon version is nearly identical, it just has thinner straps and does not have the zipper detail on the back! It also has built in shorts + cami [not padded, so I still needed a bra with this one!] and adjustable straps. If you’ve been considering the FP version, I’d already suggest trying the Amazon version instead for a fraction of the price!
Quilted Carryall
Free People Quilted Carryall // Amazon Quilted Bag
I’ve seen SO many people carrying this Free People Quilted Bag and couldn’t believe how much it could hold and all of the pockets! After carrying it for a couple days it’s much bigger than I realized! Perfect for traveling or if you’re a mom that needs ALL the things! I searched high and low for a similar option at a better price point and came up with this…. The price definitely reflected the quality of this Amazon option; much smaller, no pockets and didn’t have a great smell after un packaging… Comparing the two, I would order the Free People option!
